Our Wasterful Society

As recently reported by the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Goes through 100 billion plastic shopping bags annually. Holy smoke! An estimated 12 million barrels of oil is required to make that many plastic bags.

It gets better (or worse)

Worldwide, an estimated 4 billion plastic bags end up as litter each year. Tied end to end, that’s enough to circle the earth 63 times.

The Average family accumulates 60 plastic bags in only four (4) trips to the grocery store.

The production of paper bags creates 70 percent more air pollution than plastic, but plastic bags create four times the solid waste — enough to fill the Empire State building tow and half times.

Our solution? It’s simple. Support the use of environmentally friendly, reusable bags.
